Your Mars sign is the zodiac sign occupied by Mars at the moment you were born. In astrology, Mars is associated with action, assertion, desire, anger, courage and the way you go after a goal. The sign describes the style of that energy; it does not reduce a person to one fixed trait.

Why birth time and place still matter
A known local birth time lets the engine calculate Mars at the actual birth moment and report its degree, retrograde state, house and aspects. Place resolves the local timezone and coordinates used by the chart request; it is essential for houses and angles even when a planet's sign is not changing that day.
If your birth time is unknown, the calculator checks Mars across the full local civil day. When the sign stays the same, it reports that sign as stable while keeping the degree time-dependent. If Mars changes signs during the day, the chart marks the Mars sign as ambiguous and shows the possible signs instead of silently choosing one.

A Mars sign meaning is a starting point, not a complete reading. Astrologers interpret Mars with the house it occupies, the aspects it forms, its relationship to the Sun and Moon, and the rest of the chart. Retrograde status can add another layer to how assertion and action are described, but it should not be treated as a verdict about a person.
