A birth chart calculator turns birth date, birth time and birthplace into planetary positions, Rising sign (when time is known), houses and aspects. GetBirthChart keeps those calculations on the server-side astrology engine.

Planetary positions are computed server-side from the Swiss Ephemeris, the same ephemeris used by professional astrology software. See the calculation validation page for the public tests and known limitations.

Common questions

What information is needed for a birth chart?
A birth chart calculator needs your birth date, birthplace, and ideally an exact birth time. Date and place establish planetary positions; time unlocks Rising sign, houses and chart angles.
Why is birth time important?
Birth time determines the Ascendant (Rising sign), the house cusps and the four chart angles. The Ascendant is a continuously moving local horizon angle whose rate varies by place and date, so an accurate local clock time and birthplace matter.
Can I calculate a birth chart without birth time?
Yes. You can still calculate most planetary positions without an exact birth time. Rising sign, houses and chart angles require an accurate time, so GetBirthChart leaves them out rather than guessing.
Why is birthplace needed?
Birthplace provides geographic coordinates and the timezone context used to interpret your local birth clock against the sky. Without a resolved place, a chart cannot be oriented correctly.
What does a birth chart calculator calculate?
It calculates the positions of the Sun, Moon and planets, and — when birth time is known — the Rising sign, houses and aspects between placements. Interpretation comes after those astronomical facts.
